About Bag Tracking


LAMONTE’s focus on perpetuating various styles of each product fitted with GPS will help our customers reunite with personal effects that may be seen as irreplaceable or sentimental but of no value to another person. In essence the customer can track and retrieve their bag.

The device and software driving it differs from the conventional tracking system due to its amalgamation of sensors, data processing and data gathering capability, device control and management and also its concealment. 

Device Sensors 

Under operation, the DEVICE processing unit constantly gathers all available Geolocation information from its surroundings comprising of: 

  • GPS location (If GPS coverage is available)
  • WIFI service points and Hubs
  • Height from its built in Altimeter
  • Temperature
  • Movement, speed and rotation from its built in sensors
  • Magnetic orientation from its built in sensors
  • User proximity from its built in Bluetooth ibeacon.

What is the iBeacon and how does it work?

Firstly, the device has been specially designed with an iBeacon - a class of Bluetooth low energy that broadcast their identifier to a nearby device. The technology enables your smartphone to ‘talk’ to the bag when in close proximity to an iBeacon using Bluetooth tethering. The Bluetooth low energy sensor transmits a universally unique identifier or IMEI number picked up by the compatible Lamonte app. This is used to determine the device's physical location, track the bag or trigger a push notification. The device may then look up the iBeacon and perform various functions, such as notify the user of a problem which has been detected such as battery low or device breaching geo-fence. The receiving app can also connect to the iBeacon to retrieve your data from it which is protected (See Privacy Policy). The device will not push notifications to receiving devices other than ones with their own identity or IMEI number. This is similar to technology based on GPS, but with a much reduced impact on battery life and much extended precision.

The iBeacon used in the device designed by Lamonte uses a one - way transmitter to the receiving smartphone. It necessitates the app installed on the users phone to interact with the bag / device. This ensures that only the installed app can track the bag and ensures privacy.

Range of iBeacon

The maximum range of an iBeacon transmission will depend on the location and placement, obstructions in the environment and where the device has been inserted. Standard beacons have an approximate range of up to 100 feet. In case of loss or theft, all of this information is processed and then sent to the user’s phone via its built in 3G GSM/GPRS system.

Battery life 

The Bluetooth LE protocol is significantly more power efficient. The battery life can range from a 3-5 days depending on the amount of data being pushed to the device or this can be significantly lower if all sensors are in operation i.e. GPS, GSM, and Wi-Fi if the Bluetooth connection has been broken. The battery life in this instance will be approximately 6-8 hours.

Breaches of Bluetooth Connection 

Once the bag has breached its Bluetooth connection, the device will automatically then switch operation to the GSM / GPS mode which will also be enabled: the device has a 3G module which will enable tracking anywhere in the world once the GPS function has been engaged from Bluetooth settings. Again the parameters will range from a couple of metres or a few metres to the location of the bag depending on the satellite positions. Wi-Fi functions will also be utilised on the device in order to search for the missing item by monitoring local Wi-Fi hotspots.

Height at which bag is detected

The Lamonte device has a built in Altimeter, an instrument used to measure the altitude of an object above a fixed level will ultimately mean the app will give the customer the height in feet at which the bag is at, showing it to any floor in a building with a degree of accuracy in order to locate and recover it. This functionality will be available to review on the App once upgrades are completed however, the data is still collected from the transmitting device. 

Movement of bag

This device also contains a movement detector. This records data of up and down, side to side and rotational movement. The device measures and reports velocity, orientation, and gravitational forces, using a combination of sensors. This will send the customer data through the app providing direction the bag is moving and also project that onto the map on the app allowing the back to be tracked.
